Ingredients
  

Batter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Maple Glaze
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon maple extract optional

Method
 

Baking
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9x9-inch baking pan.
  2. Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk egg, buttermilk, melted butter, maple syrup, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Fold wet ingredients into dry ingredients until just combined.
  5. Spread batter into the pan and bake for 20-25 minutes.
  6. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Slice into 12 bars.
Glazing
  1. Whisk powdered sugar, maple extract, milk, and maple syrup until smooth and pourable.
  2. Dip each bar into the glaze and place on a wire rack.
  3. Allow glaze to set for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. For best results, bring cold ingredients to room temperature before mixing.
