Baking
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9x9-inch baking pan.
- Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
- Whisk the egg in a separate bowl, then incorporate buttermilk, melted butter, maple syrup, and vanilla.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed, being careful not to overmix.
- Spread batter into the prepared pan and tap on the counter to release air bubbles.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before cutting into 12 bars.
Glazing
- Whisk together powdered sugar, maple extract, milk, and maple syrup until smooth.
- Dip each cooled bar into the glaze and place on a wire rack to set.
- Allow the glaze to set for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Notes
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. For freezing, wrap individually and store for up to 3 months.
