Ingredients
  

Batter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Glaze
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp maple extract optional

Method
 

Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9x9-inch baking pan.
  2. Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Whisk the egg in a separate bowl, then incorporate buttermilk, melted butter, maple syrup, and vanilla.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Spread batter into the prepared pan and tap on the counter to release air bubbles.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before cutting into 12 bars.
Glazing
  1. Whisk together powdered sugar, maple extract, milk, and maple syrup until smooth.
  2. Dip each cooled bar into the glaze and place on a wire rack to set.
  3. Allow the glaze to set for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. For freezing, wrap individually and store for up to 3 months.
